Mara Levi

Above, Mara Levi released her debut album in 2003, called "Life's a Ball," but you'll have to wait for a future release to hear her radio-challenged "The Homo Song."

the CD "Sheep" by Zoe Lewis, 1998

I took the song "Harvey," about Harvey Milk, from Zoe Lewis' 1998 album "Sheep." Below, as she looked performing at the 2002 Houston Women's Festival.

Below, Chris Weipert and Carin Anderson were the duo The Other Side, and their self-titled CD was released in 1994.

The Other Side

"Venus Returning" by The Mavis's   The Mavis's

Aussie band The Mavis's have been performing for over a decade now, but the song that got my attention was from their 1996 album "Venus Returning." It's the very catchy "Do You Have a Brother?"

two CDs by Eric Schwartz

A straight artist with a very gay sensibility is Eric Schwartz, and his albums do not do justice to how hilarious he is in concert. I've got interview comments from him telling us about "Hattie & Mattie" (from "That's How It's Gonna Be" 1999) and "Charliesomething" (from "Pleading the First: Songs My Mother Hates," 2000).

Gertrude Stein Tribute

"Gertrude Stein Reads from Her Works," 1934   Alice B. Toklas

I'm sharing readings by both Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas, recorded around 1934. I introduced the set with Jess Hawk-Oakenstar and her song "Dear Gertrude Stein," from her 1995 album "Leave a Little Light On." From the stage came the closer to the set, by actress Pat Carroll, with a short selection from her award-winning production from 1980 of "Gertrude Stein, Gertrude Stein, Gertrude Stein."   Alex Harding's rare CD "Just One More and Then I'll Go"   "Only Heaven Knows" CD

One of Australia's treasures is queer playwright, songwriter, and performer Alex Harding, who for over 25 years has been contributing his own brand of gay musicals to the culture. A compilation CD called "Just One More and Then I'll Go" was released in 1996 covering his career, and from it I've chosen two tracks, the wistful "Perfect Stranger" from his 1991 show "Beauty and the Beat" and from 1978, from a show called "Double Exposure" is the bittersweet song "There's Nothing Like a Fairy to Make Sure the Party's Gay."

The compilation CD is very hard to find, and I only got my copy by finally tracking down Harding himself, who was very gracious to send me a copy. Much more available, and a CD I much recommend is the cast recording of Harding's music "Only Heaven Knows." That 1995 production launched the career of David Campbell, who has several excellent albums of his own.

Hank Baron Hank Baron Hank Baron

When I did my June show all I knew about Hank Baron was an article from the Washington DC Blade. Since then I've actually been in contact with Hank Baron himself. And he sent me two songs, for my August show, and the above vintage pics. See this page and revisit my June show to hear more of his music.

Dos Fallopia cassette    Seaman & Queerfunkle  Seaman & Queerfunkle

The delightful Lisa Koch joined Peggy Platt to form the comedy duo Dos Fallopia and the result was the 1992 cassette, from which I took "Camp Song." I've featured Lisa's music several times on QMH. And from last year another duo, calling themselves (with tongue in cheek) Seaman & Queerfunkle. They've not released an album yet, but available on the net was "Heteros Who Like Rainbows." And below, the very cute Manuel Sanchez, a German artist who in 1998 gave us "Oh, Happy Gay," a very catchy dance adaption of "Oh, Happy Day."

  Tomboy

Above, from Denmark is Tomboy, and his very fun dance release "OK2BGAY"...it's from his brand new CD...and you should See the Video!

My August show opened with Jeff Krassner and I'm closing it the same way, with another track from his 1995 album "Strong For You." Shown below is Jeff, between my Audiofile co-producers Christopher David Trentham and Chris Wilson. Below that, a press pic and "Maybe," his 2000 CD. That title track from that was used on the soundtrack to the movie "Trick."
