Charlie & Ray

If you google the rhythm & blues duo Charlie & Ray one of the first things you will find is that they were "unabashedly gay," and this was in the Eisenhower era of the late 1950s. Little information has survived about them personally, but they traveled widely on the club circuit, playing the Apollo Theater and other venues. They released about ten 45s on the Herald label from 1954 through 1959. A number of these can be found on YouTube, like their biggest hit, "I Love You Madly." A clipping I found from 1955 indicates their full names were Charlie Jones and Ray Williams.
