The National
March on Washington
For Lesbian & Gay Rights,
October 14, 1979

This
page displays the "coverage" of the March, from the early
stages,
as reported in Norfolk's gay newspaper, Our Own Community Press.
It recounts the early reactions by local and national groups to even
the idea of having a March, and many were against it. Most of those
differences were forgotten by the end, and it was seen as a landmark
event in our history.
I became Editor of the newspaper just the month prior
to the March, in September,
though I had been very active with the newspaper for almost a year.
I feel blessed
that this event occurred during my tenure as Editor.
